[algo] Feedback

Feedback about me, my style, what have you learned from me and not forgetting what you want me to improve on.

Well, the way you teach help us think about how the code really works. Which is rather effective. Not only that, you used physical items to help us further visualise the program (for example the cards) which really aids me with the understanding much better. Just that I think its better if you could help us solve the drill questions more at times. Especially when we are actually more "fresh" to a particular topic.

Good method of teaching as he uses real life examples to make us understand better.

i think the module is difficult, but you are the best teacher i think in my year two, semester one, with responsibility and humorous. thank you

about you:
You are a smart guy, really smart,i can tell.and interesting, what's more, you are keen to teach,i can tell that you want to teach more, not for you but for our own good, want us to learn better, you love programming, and love to teach it,you are a good teacher.
your style:
interesting, you put a lot of effort to make learning fun.and you are kindhearted.
learn from you:
work harder, love it. You and your 'ex lecturer and now collegue' make a huge impact on me,work hard+love it+smart=easy and fast to reach the target. e.g. 15 years old guy can win gold medal as well since he puts a lot of effort, you tell me that i need to improve a bit on style of doing things, you are right, i've thought about it, thank you.
improve:
now, you are different from my other lecturers.but,i hope you can keep all you good style on,cause i look at all my lecturer in sp, i found that maybe they all like you in the first place, but after serverl years in poly, most of the students maybe didn't appreciate their teaching, made them disappoint and lose passion.then they become teaching "sui bian". so i hope you can consider to teach in university, do waste your intelligent.
It's nice to meet you. You influence me in some way, i learn a lot from you, thanks.
It's a pleasure.

Your method of teaching is really good. I really understand better compared to last time just that i take time to understand. And your real life examples are helpful as i understand. It is more useful you demonstrating than you just explaining theory. Overall i just understand your teaching if i pay attention.

hmmm... the use of physical examples is good as it helps in the understanding of how the program works, especially the sorting algorithms. Over all, everything is taught at a good pace.

sometimes, your teaching tempo is too fast, and i don't understand what you are trying to teach. however, you give us drills which really helped me alot in recaping.

:D

The module's difficult; for ME!It's hard to understand without your help, but with the exampls you provide and repeated explanations, it's understandable.
(=
The help you always provide during class time is very useful.

The way you teach makes things simple, but the drill questions ain't that simple. Too bad there's lack of time for the module if not chances to score better would be higher. overall your teaching is capable of making a lameman to understand; im a living prove. and i still think you look sexy in that shirt.

He uses a different style of teaching as compared to most teachers because he revises on the previous topics other than continue to teach the new chapters.

Besides this, he gives drill questions. I find this very helpful as I'm the type of person that will forget things easily.

Willingness to deviate from the standard topics to answer more advanced questions or facilitate understanding is a good thing albeit the advanced explanations are sometimes too complicated to understand. Placed a bit too much emphasis on algorithm and not enough no coding. To me the algorithm is easier than the coding.

You are a very helpful teacher whenever i have trouble in the code. However, maybe the time for the practical is too short or you teached too fast cause sometimes i did not have enough time to do finish the questions

Anonymous said...

you have a very interesting way to teach algorithms with your stories.

Well, the way you teach helps me understand how to use code, especially vectors, better. Not only that, you used cards to show us sorting algo which really helps me understand better. i feel the drills are a good exercise, which helps me feel like i passed the lab test(i better pass ^v^,otherwise the drills were useless, nah just kidding i just suck)

Good methods of teaching, and I like that you bother to drill us on coding.

Generally i feel that you teach at a comfortable pace. The use of example does help us understand the concept of the algorithms better. Also, i personally like the drill questions as it *forces* us to practice, which we would otherwise not. However, i do feel that you have to relate to the students more often.

your teaching not bad la. in class quite interesting.

a few random points to bring up

1) DOUBLE POSTERS SHALL DIE (to edmund)

2) suppport my forum www.dotasg.com

3) PK DAIDEE SOME DAY? CHAMPION SIA!!

Using real-life examples like cards and stuff really helped me to understand more about the topics. Sometimes u have gone thru some of the topics a wee bit faster but overall, the pace of the lessons is just nice. Also, to be able to walk around freely during ur lessons is gr8 as i can learn from my classmates as well.

You taught algo in a wonderful way thus enables me to get a better understanding. Proper examples are given to facliate in the understanding which I finds it very effective. However topic such as file operation, sorting should have more examples given. Generally you are a wonderful teacher!! Keep up the good work =)

Your method of teaching certainly is interesting. Furthermore, it certainly has made what we are suppose to learn easier to understand. I would say i never got bored in your lesson and that is a good thing.

Over all good... problem: when u give a question, those that u give us some time to do.... make sure u save some time to go through the answer... for exaple .. if u have 30 min, give only 15 - 20 min to try... go through the answers later... that will be more effective..

sry for late comment 1st time visting ur blog haha... hmm i like ur teaching of sorting using poker cards make it veri easy to understand and tempting for dai dee aso ^^ . i like ur teaching method.. more practical n even when i cant use mi codeblock, i look at wad edmund doing n wad u teach at least i still can understand. but wad i like best is u dun mind toking to us abt game haha... so if 1 dae free... show mi n zhen kai ur champ dai dee skill hehe

Hey! I said i will write and yes! I'm giving you my feedback. I like the illustrations of using poker cards as it really gives us a visual of how the algorithm behind the program works. It's different from what other lecturer usually teaches us which only uses ppt. slides or notes. That's a good method of teaching i would say.

Next, the introduced of drill question does partially get us ready for the lab test. However, it would be good if a sample code with explanation could be provided all the drill question as it could really allow us to revise and get prepared for the lab test/exams.

Lastly, disadvantages, basically, not much, but help provided to students could be improved in aspects like guide along till one gets the answer? but of course, i understand that time is the factor during tutorial. But anyway, yeah, try to improve on that.

That's all I have to say.

Good teaching, real-life examples makes us think of writing code for "the real world" instead of just spamming the IDE and making the compiler complain (a lot). I like the drill questions because it gives us *practice*, too bad there isn't enough time for more.

Anonymous said...

very friendly and helpful.... your teaching method is also different from others....

A very 'concerning' teacher though i hav not been a 'good' student to him (apologise here coz of too many projects n tests, tats why i cant concentrate on pragramming). Treats students fairly.
RECOMMENDED..!! haha..

U teach very well. Furthermore, ur usage of physical examples is good way to relate it to real life uses. Though sometimes it can be abit difficult to see the link between the physical examples and the program code.

yes i agree with all the other lifeforms on the fact that your method of teaching the topic relative to its application in reality is effective.

One major problem...the powerpoint slide: you might just be that much closer to help solving the myopic cases in Singapore by typing out the code in the slides instead of saving them as pictures.

PS: sorry for my scribbles in my paper...

u r a good n helpful teacher who always go to those who need help. ur drill qns help me to comprehend things better.
however ur lessons tend to go abit too fast sometimes.. i didn't have enough time to get ur solutions to some of the drill qns.

well to be frank, i like the way u teach...especially with examples. It helps me to get the topic well but sometimes i do find it abit hard to grasp ur codes especially when u go too fast.It would be better if u cud slow down and demostrate those example codes by running it rather than juz explaining in words.
